Playgroup at the Lake...

On Wednesday, the MOPS gals all got together and had playgroup at the lake. They were able to arrange for the use of several kayaks/canoes for this outing and took turns taking the little ones out on the lake.

Emily and Tanner were able to go out at one point, and of course Tanner loved it. Shelby took these pictures of the outing. If it is possible for a 4 year old to have a girlfriend, then she (Shelby's daughter) is Tanner’s (at least in his mind).

A Small Family Renunion...

We were blessed recently with the visit of Emily’s mom, grandma, aunt, and cousin. Her grandma had spent a couple weeks with family in Kansas, and our house happens to be a good meeting place, about half way between KS and Grinnell.

It was good to see everybody and catch up. Enjoy the pictures!

Fishing at Valentine

Well, it finally came! The annual fishing trek to Valentine, NE, for northern fishing. Jon, myself, and Jon’s father-in-law Mel, all set out in Jon’s Oldsmobile pulling the boat Jon got last year.

Well, much like the trip of ’05, we got to about Fremont (just 45 minutes into the trip) and Jon’s transmission started slipping. Memories of the Honda and being low on fluid two years before entered our minds immediately. We limped the car into Fremont and checked the levels and they seemed to be fine. Jon tried calling a couple places about a rental, but no luck, so….

I called Emily and told her to clean out the van and pack a bag for Tanner. There was no way I could leave Emily with all three kids, but without the van. Three car seats in the back of the Buick Regal just doesn’t work…so Tanner got to tag along after all.

We dropped the boat in Fremont and Mel stayed there with it while Jon and I drove the Olds back to my house. We transferred everything over and set out again, this time at about 4pm, with Tanner and the van.

We picked up Mel and the boat and headed to Merritt Reservoir where we were camping…we got there about 10:30pm and setup camp in the dark and in a light rain. Needless to say we were exhausted.

Unfortunately the trip out was more exciting than the fishing. It was a really slow bite, and really windy. After the first day, we were lucky if we each caught two fish. The second day wasn’t much better.

One bright spot was that Tanner had been dangling a lure over the edge of the boat all day and in an odd set of circumstance, actually hooked into a 24 inch, 2-3 lbs northern! What a treat for him! I had to do the reeling, but he hooked it all by himself. He thought he was stuck in the weeds.

A Few Pics to Look at...

Well, these are just a few random pics from the last couple weeks. With the new baby came visits from family, which is great. It was nice having help with the other two when we needed it. During that time, Marsha got creative and made Tanner a Spiderman mask…which he loved.

The kids seem to be doing really well with the new addition. So far there doesn’t seem to be any jealousy or anything towards Marleigh. Let’s hope it stays that way.

The Kids and Their Art...

Tanner especially, but Bella as well, loves to draw or paint or cut out shapes or play with playdough.  Sometimes it gets pretty messy, but most of the time it turns out OK.

When my parents were here after Marleigh was born, dad got a couple of good shots of the kids and their art work.  Bella’s silhouette is especially cute as she works on her painting.

Mom and Baby are home and doing fine...

Emily and Marleigh came home from the hospital on Monday. We got home about 11 am and got settled back into the house. Nana and Papa are helping with the other two kids, which is very nice, and we were able to have a good first day home. Tanner is a little bit of a stinker because of all the commotion with the new baby and visitors, but he will make it through.

Bella likes to kiss the baby and hold her, well at least for a few minutes at a time. When she holds her she often kisses here and you can hear her laughing to herself…which is a good sign. At this point, she doesn’t seem to have jealousy issues.

The first couple nights have gone pretty well. I think the baby is sleeping better than Emily. She is still a little sore from the C-section and one of the hardest things to do is sit up from laying flat in bed…which is exactly what she has to do to take care of Marleigh.

Keep checking back and we will post more info and pics along the way.
